Seizure-Safe Sports Education
Know What to Do When a Seizure Happens.
A seizure can happen anywhere—on the field, court, track, in the gym or on the sidelines. When it does, having people nearby who understand how to respond can make an important difference.
1 in 26 READY brings epilepsy awareness and seizure-safety education into athletic and community environments. We help coaches, trainers, educators, fitness professionals and organizations better understand seizures, appropriate first-aid response and how to create supportive environments for athletes living with epilepsy.
Our goal is simple: more prepared communities and more supported athletes.
Coaches
Prepared coaches create more confident teams.
Coaches are often among the first people an athlete and their family trust when participating in sports. Understanding epilepsy can help coaches feel more prepared to support an athlete living with the condition.
1 in 26 READY introduces coaches to seizure recognition, basic seizure first aid, when to seek emergency assistance and ways to communicate with athletes and families. We also discuss how coaches can foster inclusion while respecting an athlete's individual needs.
ATHLETIC TRAINERS
Supporting the people on the front lines of athlete safety.
Athletic trainers and sports medicine professionals play an important role in athlete health and safety. READY provides epilepsy-focused education that can complement an organization's existing emergency preparedness.
Sessions can cover seizure recognition and response, post-seizure considerations, communication and supporting athletes as part of a collaborative team.
Our goal is to help make epilepsy a more familiar part of conversations around athlete safety.
SCHOOLS & ATHLETIC DEPARTMENTS
Creating safer environments from the classroom to the field.
School athletics bring together coaches, teachers, administrators, trainers, students and families. Creating greater awareness across that community can help students living with epilepsy feel more understood and supported.
READY can work with schools and athletic departments to provide epilepsy education for coaches, staff and athletic personnel while encouraging communication and inclusion throughout the school sports environment.
SPORTS CLUBS & LEAGUES
Building seizure-ready sports communities.
Youth clubs, recreational leagues, travel teams and competitive sports organizations can all benefit from having leaders who understand basic seizure response.
READY workshops can be incorporated into preseason meetings, coach education, staff development, team safety events or community programming.
Whether an organization serves ten athletes or hundreds, the goal remains the same: help the people surrounding athletes feel more prepared.
GYMS & FITNESS STUDIOS
Seizure preparedness belongs beyond the sidelines.
Seizures don't only happen during organized sports. They can occur in gyms, fitness studios, recreation centers and other movement-based environments.
1 in 26 READY helps fitness professionals better understand epilepsy and what to do if a participant experiences a seizure during a class, workout or training session.
Education can be tailored for personal trainers, group fitness instructors, Pilates and yoga instructors, gym staff and other fitness professionals.
